GOLDEN K MEMBERSHIP IDEAS

Sponsor a Grandparents Day essay contest at the local elem. schools (The winning student needs to bring their grandparent to the meeting in order to receive their 50$ saving bond. If the club meets during the day, either hold a special mtg. on a Sat. or ask the parent to bring the grandparent. Then get the grandparent to join!

You can do the same thing with kids writing about a veteran they know.

This one is unique but ... put your Kiwanis membership in your will. If you die before your dues period is paid, the beneficiary gets a "free ride" until the next dues period.

Move your meeting once a month to a senior center. On that day have a "senior-interest" speaker and ask the center to advertise the event. A $2 donation at the door goes to Spastic. (If there is no fee, people don't think it's worthwhile.) Serve homemade cake and cookies.

Run a white elephant BINGO after each meeting. Have them tell a friend about the BINGO and invite them to come along.

Invite the Wal-Mart Greeters to come. They're seniors looking for something to do.

Check out the volunteers at the local hospital. Again, they are seniors willing to be involved.
Put a notice in the local newspaper or Senior Center Newsletter that the club is looking for "A few good men and women!"

Go to a senior living center and introduce the Hospital Doll Project. The Kiwanis Club of Lombard asked Lexington Senior Center to make dolls instead of their usual Arts and Crafts. They pledged 50. As of November, 2007 they have made 4000 dolls!
