- ARTHUR H. RENIER,
JR.
- Past Governor Arthur H. Renier,
Jr. passed away suddenly on May 12, 1996. Arthur and his seventeen
year old son, Robert, were driving to the family summer home
at Paddock Lake, Wisconsin, on the evening of Saturday, May 11,
after attending his daughter Laurie's graduation from college
when he decided to stop at a restaurant. When son Robert returned
to their car, Arthur was slumped over the steering wheel. Emergency
crew efforts were not able to revive him.
-
- Arthur the man, son, husband,
father, lawyer was one you do not meet often enough in your life.
He was a knowledgeable, kind, caring, loving individual influencing
everyone whose life he touched
-
- He was active not only in Kiwanis
but also in his community and church working with the elderly
and adult education as well as the Holy Name Society and was
a Eucharistic Minister for sixteen years.
-
- Arthur was a lifelong resident
of Chicago, born on January 19, 1935. He was a lawyer in general
practice focusing in estate planning and tax work.
- There were over one thousand
persons paying their respects in addition to hundreds of cards
from around the world. As I visited, the only comments were
of the kind of person I described earlier. What a testimony
to a man to hear from others the many acts he performed in his
lifetime.
-
- Arthur joined the Kiwanis Club
of Lakeview in 1962 following his father Arthur R., Sr. and maintained
perfect attendance for thirty-four years. He served the Lake
View Club as Treasurer (1964-65), Vice-President (1966) and President
(1967) as well as Secretary and Historian for many years. He
served the District as Lt. Governor of Division 1 (1970-71),
District Secretary (1971-72 and 1972-73), District Bulletin Editor
(1973-74), Governor Elect (1975-76), Governor (1976-77) Distinguished.
-
- During his thirty-four years
of Kiwanis service Arthur was responsible for forming seventeen
new Kiwanis clubs, (including one he was working to form at the
time of his passing.) He was also President of the Lake View
Child Rehabilitation Foundation. The Foundation supplied and
installed chair lifts for young people under the age of nineteen.
-
- He worked tirelessly to form
the Past Lt. Governor group which he actively supported throughout
the years. He currently was serving as I-I District Historian
as he had for several years.
-
- On the twenty-eighth of May,
Arthur was to receive the Hixson Medal from his Club, for service
to his Division and District.
-
- In addition to serving the less
fortunate through Kiwanis, Arthur was also actively involved
in Scouting for over 20 years, being an Eagle Scout and active
Scoutmaster, serving the Chicago Council Executive Board and
serving as the Order of Arrow District Chairman. In recognition
of his outstanding involvement in Scouting, Arthur was honored
with the Silver Beaver Award.
-
- Arthur was in active service
for the U. S. Army (1958-1960) and U.S. Army Reserve (1960-1964).
-
- Arthur received a Juris Doctorate
from Chicago Kent School of Law (1962) and was admitted to the
Illinois Bar in 1962. He received his Bachelor of Arts from
Northwestern University, Evanston in 1856. He was a member of
the Chicago and Illinois Bar Associations and past chapter Dean
of Phi Delta Phi Law Fraternity
